Welcome to Our New Principal at CATS Cambridge

We are delighted to welcome Dr. Hugh McCormick as the new Principal of CATS Cambridge. We look forward to the positive impact he will bring to the CATS Cambridge school.

Hugh obtained a First Class Bachelor’s degree in Politics, Philosophy and Economics at the University of Oxford. His undergraduate thesis was published in an international peer review journal and is included on reading lists at Ivy League universities. Hugh remained at Oxford for Master’s and Doctorate degrees in Politics funded by an AHRC Fellowship, and taught undergraduate students a range of subjects across Politics, Modern History, Economics, and Philosophy. In his spare time he was a choral scholar, President of Vincent’s Club, coached the university women’s Rugby Union team, and played Varsity matches in Rugby Union, Rugby League and Athletics.

After Oxford, Hugh worked for UBS and Macquarie Bank in London, before returning to education as a teacher at Harrow School and Head of Department at Sevenoaks School. In 2020, at the start of the global pandemic, he moved to the Swiss resort of Verbier and founded Copperfield International School, the world’s only ski in ski out school, which became an IB World School, with accreditations for the Diploma and Primary Years Programmes.

In 2021, while leading Copperfield, Hugh became an advisor to Sevenoaks School on international school models around the world. And in 2022, he obtained a Master’s in Educational Leadership, with Distinction, from Cambridge University, where his research focused upon the link between shared leadership and teacher motivation.
