Each year the Independent Schools Association holds a national art competition. Students from Early Years all the way up to KS5 enter their artwork, individually or as a group, for consideration. The competition has huge scope, with lots of different artistic mediums being covered. This includes sculpture, fashion and photography as well as more traditional forms.
The Award Show
On the 14th of October, CATS Cambridge’s atmosphere was electric. A stream of people made their way to the common room, where the ISA Art Exhibition was hosted. The makeshift gallery boasted a huge variety of work from students across the county. It was filled with families and competitors, who were all excited to glimpse their own masterpiece up on display.
As they wandered around the room guests could help themselves to a spread of sandwiches, sweet treats and hot drinks. Dividers, decorated with paintings, sketches and photography created impromptu pathways for people to explore.
To conclude the exhibition students and families filled CATS Cambridge’s lecture theatre. There, Dominic Tomalin, CATS Cambridge’s Principal delivered a dynamic speech announcing the winners of each category. He congratulated those who had won their categories and wished them luck as they progressed through to the next stage of the competition.
Our Winner
It was with much delight that CATS Cambridge announced a personal victory. Bosco took first place for KS5 Photography and his work ‘On The Bus’, which progressed on to the next stage of the competition.
The Importance of Art
Having the opportunity to engage in art and be creative is vital for students. Being able to engage in creative practices is a wonderful way to look after your mental health.
Additionally, art and the desire to create and be creative is also the source of human innovation. Here at CATS Cambridge we always strive to show our students how powerful innovative thinking can be.
