Celebrating Unity in Diversity: International Day at CATS Cambridge

This year, we celebrated our International Day on Thursday, 2nd May. The event took place both inside the school and on the school grounds, and it truly belonged to the student body. The simple remit was to share and celebrate food, music, celebrations, and customs from home countries. It’s a day cherished by many students and staff as one of their favorites of the year, characterised by an atmosphere of celebration and learning.

The day began with a symphony of delicious aromas wafting through the corridors as students cooked their home country dishes. A wide variety of dishes were shared, each clearly labeled with its ingredients so everyone could understand and appreciate what they were eating and how the dishes were prepared.

At long PT time, students started setting up the country tables. Once the displays were ready, everyone spent an hour and a half sharing food and learning about historic places of interest, cultural events, musical instruments, traditional games, currency, and every imaginable aspect of cultural life.

The final segment of the day was our talent show. This showcased a wide variety of performances from our students, ranging from singing and dancing to poetry reading and even sword fighting (using safe props, of course). The talent show was a highlight, enjoyed immensely by both participants and the audience.

International Day at CATS Cambridge is more than just a party. It’s a chance to learn about different cultures, break down barriers, and build friendships. By sharing food, stories, and even some swordplay stances, people from all over the world discover that they have much more in common than they might think. It’s a celebration of what makes CATS Cambridge special – a place where everyone feels welcome, no matter where they call home.
